Why Do We Love The Roaring Fork Valley?

Ahhh, Aspen where do we start? It is a world-class destination with outdoor adventures from skiing to biking, with a flair for arts and culture. And even still Aspen maintains enough small-town charm for year-round residents to call it home. Aspen is one huge reason why we love the Roaring Fork Valley!

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen Colorado is a unique diamond in the rough. It also has a knack for bringing big-city features to you in a way that defies the ordinary.

Here are our reasons why we LOVE the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado!

Uniquely Nestled in the Rocky Mountains

If you are looking to relocate to or visit one of the communities of the Roaring Fork Valley, you’ve come to the right spot! Its great location is another reason why we love the Roaring Fork Valley. Located in western Colorado, the Roaring Fork Valley is one of the most affluent regions in Colorado and the U.S. and one of the most populous and economically vital areas of the Colorado Western Slope.

The Valley is defined by the valley of the Roaring Fork River, including the Crystal and Fryingpan Rivers. The Roaring Fork River is 70 miles long and is located exclusively in Colorado, flowing through several canyons in the state’s west-central part. The river is known for having deep, powerful, clear water and is a famous tributary of the Colorado River.

The RFV is surrounded by mountains on all sides and on its southwest edge by the high Elk Mountains, which is the location of the Aspen/Snowmass ski resorts. The upper (southeast) end of the valley is sometimes called the Aspen Valley. Locals simply refer to it as “up-valley” – Aspen/Snowmass – and “down-valley” – Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs. Mount Sopris dominates the lower (northwest) end of the valley and also serves as an unofficial symbol of the region. Many think the Roaring Fork River, from which the valley was named, is the unofficial symbol of the region.

Engel and Völkers is honored to serve this geographically proud region with shops in Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt, Willits, and Carbondale.

Aspen is one of the most-well known Colorado ski and snowboard destinations in the world. This is why people flock here in the winter. With four separate ski and snowboard areas, there is an amazing selection of terrain. There is a vibe for everyone – from movie stars to powder-hounds alike.

Although skiing forms the foundation of the economy, other activities continue to draw visitors to the area in increasing number. There is non-winter recreational and cultural activities such as fly fishing on the Fryingpan and whitewater rafting on the Roaring Fork. You can hike near the Maroon Bells in the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness, or enjoy the caverns and hot springs in Glenwood Springs. Many come from around the world to attend the Aspen Institute and Rocky Mountain Institute conferences, and the very popular Aspen Music Festival, and other cultural events.

During the summers, you can hit one of the dozens of trails or join the yoga group on the mountaintop. And for the nature lover, take a naturalist tour to learn about the wildlife and plants, or hop on a gondola for the view. After an action-packed day on the mountains, relax and appreciate the breathtaking views of Ajax (Aspen Mountain) and the Elk Mountain Range. There is plenty to do in the Roaring Fork Valley all year long!
